​​​​In 1973 a group of enthusiastic DeTomaso Pantera and Mangusta owners began to hold regular meetings at Peyton Lincoln-Mercury in Long Beach, California.  From this small conclave of automobile owners emerged the Pantera Owners Club of America.  Over the years, the POCA organization solidified and its membership began its steady expansion including 15 chapters across the United States.  The Pantera Owners Club of America is officially recognized by DeTomaso Automobili, S.p.A., Modena, Itally.  POCA is dedicated to the history, maintenance, restoration and preservation of all DeTomaso automobiles.  Members thrive on activity and the Club, with its many local chapters, provides a wide range of activities including speed events, social events, regular meetings, rallies, Concours d' Elegance and an annual convention.  POCA also disseminates technical information about DeTomaso automobiles through the publication of a monthly newsletter and four color quarterly magazine.  Additional information about POCA is available at the club's internet site (http://www.poca.com).  DFW Panteras is a chapter of POCA.  The chapter is centered in Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex and attracts members from North Texas, Oklahoma, and surrounding areas.

What is a DeTomaso Pantera?


Detomaso Panteras are mid-engine exotic cars that were produced in Itally and imported to the United States by Ford Motor Company from 1971 - 1975.  The stunning car is a combination of a potent ford 351 Cleveland motor, fully independent suspension, 4 wheel disc brakes and ZF transaxle.  The car was styled by car designer Tom Tjaarda.

Are Panteras successfully raced?


D J "Mad Dog" Antenucci conceived Team Pantera Racing in March 1997 to support continuing DeTomaso Pantera vintage sports and racecar participation in open road racing events like the Silver State Classic Challenge (SSCC).  There are currently 52 Team Pantera Racing members who compete in such as the grueling Nevada Open road Challenge and the Silver State Classic Challenge.  Thoughout the US, at tracks like Willow Springs, Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen, Summit Point, Bridgehampton, Lime Rock, and Pocono, POCA members test their driving skills and their cars.  POCA members have even driven on famous circuit of LeMans, France.  Since its conception, Team Pantera Racing members have been highly successful, placing in every race entered.


How did the Pantera come about?


In the late 1960's, Ford was in need of a high performance GT to combat the likes of Ferrari and Corvette, and assist in generating additional dealership traffic for its mainstream product lines.  DeTomaso Automobili was relying on Ford for engines used in the Mangusta and had purchased the Ghia design and coach-building concern.  After Ford's failed attempt to purchase Ferrari, the Ford - DeTomaso marriage seemed quite natural, so a business arrangement was consummated and ork began on a new mid - engined GT.
